A PSG is a comprehensive overnight diagnostic recording of physical activities that occur while you sleep. Our certified sleep technicians attach advanced sensors used for assessing sleep disorders. This usually incorporates 12 or more channels of biologic rhythms. This allows for detailed monitoring of the patient's brainwaves, oxygen saturation, leg motion, heart rate, and other critical benchmarks for diagnosing many sleep disorders. A PSG can also pickup and record Neurological Concerns, Cardiovascular Concerns, Pulmonary Concerns in addition to Sleep Disorder Breathing Concerns such as Sleep Apnea. A technician oversees the patient throughout the night and can makes adjustments to the equipment to ensure the highest level recordings with the most detailed results possible. Sleep information collected from your one night stay is approximately 720 to 800 pages of data.
If your medical provider prescribed a diagnostic sleep study with Positive Airway Pressure (PAP Titration), you will also wear a PAP mask alongside the sensors. You can use the restroom at any point during the night.
Studies usually end between 4-5 a.m. Our sleep technicians cannot review your sleep results with you or make any treatment recommendations. Please follow up with your ordering medical provider 14 days after you conducted your sleep testing to review your sleep results and recommendations for treatment if necessary.
Appointments must be cancelled at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled test to avoid a $200 cancellation fee. If scheduled on Saturday or Sunday, contact us Friday before 10 a.m. No-shows will also be charged $200. These fees are not covered by Medicare or insurance.
We accept all major credit cards, checks, or exact cash. A 3% fee applies to all credit transactions. We are unable to make change.
When you arrive, the technologist will apply monitoring devices - approximately 45 minutes. You'll sleep in a private bedroom with a TV. Bring a book if you like. We provide all bedding.
Your medical provider has ordered a home sleep test to evaluate you for Sleep Apnea - a condition where breathing pauses repeatedly during sleep, often without the person even knowing. This test allows you to sleep in the comfort of your own home while a compact device collects the data.
Go to bed at your normal time and aim for at least 6 hours of sleep. If you experience difficulties or get less than 4 hours, call us at (702) 463-8062.
Please return your device promptly - other patients are scheduled and waiting. Return between 9am-11am unless other pickup arrangements have been made.
A compact Type III home sleep testing device that records up to five channels: Respiratory Effort, Pulse, Oxygen Saturation, Nasal Flow, and Snoring. Lightweight and easy to use with provided instructions.
At Home Sleep Studies provides only the diagnostic portion of your sleep study. Results are reviewed by our board-certified sleep medicine physicians and the report is faxed to your ordering medical provider. Medical Emergency: If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, numbness in your left arm, or a debilitating headache - call 911 immediately.
Untreated sleep disorders contribute to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, accidents, and more. Tap a condition to learn more.
Repeated breathing pauses during sleep, causing poor rest and serious cardiovascular risk.
Difficulty falling or staying asleep, leading to daytime fatigue, mood changes, and impaired function.
A strong urge to move the legs, with crawling or burning sensations - worse at night.
Extreme daytime sleepiness, sometimes with sudden muscle weakness or sleep paralysis.
Upper airway resistance disrupting breathing patterns without full apnea episodes.
Untreated disorders raise your risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and accidents.
Sleep apnea often goes undiagnosed - doctors usually cannot detect it during routine office visits, and there are no blood tests for it. Most people who have it don't know because it only occurs during sleep. A family member or bed partner often notices the signs first.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea - the most common type - means the airway collapses or becomes blocked during sleep, causing breathing pauses and often loud snoring. It's more common in people who are overweight, but can affect anyone.
Central Sleep Apnea occurs when the brain doesn't send the correct signals to the breathing muscles. Snoring typically does not occur with this type.
Insomnia ranges from mild to severe depending on frequency and duration. Chronic insomnia means symptoms at least 3 nights a week for more than a month. It can cause daytime sleepiness, anxiety, depression, trouble concentrating, and dangerous drowsiness while driving.
Secondary (comorbid) insomnia - the most common type - is a symptom of another problem such as a medical condition, medication, or another sleep disorder.
Primary insomnia is not due to a medical problem and is its own disorder, often triggered by prolonged stress or emotional upset.
RLS causes a strong urge to move your legs, often with uncomfortable sensations described as creeping, crawling, tingling, burning, or electric shocks. The urge is worse in the evening and at night, temporarily relieved by movement.
RLS has been associated with kidney failure, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, and iron deficiency. It can significantly disrupt sleep quality and daily functioning. Treatments include lifestyle changes and medications.
Narcolepsy causes periods of extreme daytime sleepiness, and in rare cases people fall asleep suddenly during normal activities. Most people with narcolepsy also have difficulty sleeping at night. It affects between 50,000 and 2.4 million Americans, with symptoms often beginning in teen or young adult years.
Narcolepsy may also cause cataplexy (sudden loss of muscle tone), sleep paralysis, and vivid hallucinations while falling asleep or waking. Most people with narcolepsy have low levels of hypocretin, a brain chemical that regulates wakefulness.
Snoring is caused by the vibration of soft tissue in the upper airway during sleep. While not always dangerous on its own, chronic loud snoring can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea or Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS).
UARS involves airway resistance that disrupts breathing and fragments sleep - without meeting the full diagnostic criteria of sleep apnea. Patients often experience fatigue and poor sleep quality without knowing the cause. A diagnostic sleep study can identify whether treatment is needed.
Ignoring a sleep disorder can lead to far more than just feeling tired. Untreated sleep apnea and other disorders significantly raise your risk of serious health events and chronic conditions.
Serious risks include: car accidents and serious injury, increased risk of heart attack or stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, pregnancy complications, obesity, low sex drive, mood swings, poor concentration, and depression.
The good news: proper diagnosis and treatment can dramatically reduce these risks and improve quality of life. Getting tested is the first step.
